Mr. Peter Mitchell, age 63 of Marietta, Georgia died Saturday July 26, 2003. A native of Staten Island, New York, Mr. Mitchell was a graduate of Lafayette University, Easton, Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. He served for five years in the United States Army, including a tour of 18 months with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. Mr. Mitchell was a recipient of the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Oak Leaf Cluster for bravery and meritorious service.

Mr. Mitchell was Chairman and immediate past President of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association and an active volunteer with the American Red Cross, where he served as a Disaster Action Team Member and was past Captain at the Northwest Metro Service Center. Mr. Mitchell was also the American Red Cross National Field Supply Manager and the Emergency Response Vehicle Coordinator for the State of Georgia. He was active in Cobb County Republican politics, was a member of the Atlanta Lion's Club, a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he was a member. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Fern Stooksbury Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Ellen Hankins Mitchell; his son, Robert Joseph Mitchell of Atlanta; his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kevin Kelleher of Charleston, SC; his step-children and their spouses, Major Steven and Natalie Hankins of West Point, NY and Amy and Scott Miller of Rayville, MO and 5 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 30 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Reverend Laura Parker officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, July 29 from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Canton Hill. On-line tributes for Mr. Mitchell may be posted at www.Mem.com.
