Matthew served as a - Pvt. - E-1 - Army - Regular Enlisted Service. He was 24 years old at the time of his death, single not married. Matthew was born on March 3, 1947. He was from Greenville, South Carolina. His tour of duty in Vietnam began on August 9, 1970. Matthew served with the "A" Company, 26th Engineer Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade, 23rd Americal Division. Matthew died on May 3, 1971 in Quang Nam Province, Republic of South Vietnam. Matthew's death was a result of an enemy explosive device. His body was recovered. Matthew's religion was Methodist. Matthew's name is listed on Panel 3W --- Line 24 of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. "Rest In Peace Matthew You Are Missed By All Who Knew You"
