Matthew served as a - PVT - E1 -  Regular Enlisted Service.

He was 24 years old at the time of his death, single not married.

Matthew  was born on Mar. 3, 1947. He was from Greenville, SC.

His tour of duty in Vietnam began on Aug. 9 1970.

Matthew served with the "A" Company, 26th Engineer Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade, 23rd Americal Division.

Matthew died on May 3, 1970 in Quang Nam Province,
Republic of South Vietnam.

Matthew's death was a result of an enemy grenade attack.  Matthew died of his wounds, and three others were wounded as remembered by Sgt. James M. Boston, his Sqd. Leader.
His body was recovered.

Matthew's religion was Methodist.

Matthew's name is listed on Panel 03W --- Line 24
of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C.
