SGT Ronald Baker, SP4 Joseph F. De Crosta, and PFC Charles Wallace Jr. were assigned to A Company, 26th Engineer Battalion, Americal Division. On January 19, 1968, they were passengers in a military truck traveling on highway QL-1 about 10 miles west of Chu Lai Airfield when the vehicle ran off the road, overturned in a rice paddy, and burned.
