James served as a - Sp5 - E-5 - Army - Drafted Selective Service. He was 21 years old at the time of his death, single not married. James was born on November 21,, 1946. He was from Britt, Minnesota. His tour of duty in Vietnam began on June 21, 1967. James served with the "A" Company, 26th Engineer Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade, 23rd Americal Division. James died on January 19, 1968 in Quang Nam Province, Republic of South Vietnam. James's death was a result of an enemy explosive device. His body was recovered. James's religion was Lutheran & Missouri Synod. James's name is listed on Panel 42E --- Line 13 of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C.
